Zinc (Zn) is involved in synthesis of proteins and in the formation of seeds and promotes plant growth and vigor. Many enzymes require zinc ions (Zn²⁺) for their activity, and zinc may be required for chlorophyll biosynthesis in some plants.

Typical deficiency symptoms:

Zinc deficiency is characterized by a reduction in internodal growth, and bleaching of leaves and as a result plant display a rosette habit of growth, in which the leaves form a circular cluster radiating at or close to the ground. The leaves may also be small and distorted, with leaf margins having a puckered appearance.
